목조각용으로 '마티카' 목재 조각을 사서 동물을 더 깎아봤습니다.

외국 자료에는 목조각용으로 Basswood 를 많이 씁니다. 참피나무라고 하는데, 저는 그 나무를 모릅니다.

목조각용으로 한국 시장에서는 '마티카'를 팔지만 정확한 명칭은 '제루통 jerutong'이 맞다고 합니다.

I purchased  several pieces of 'matica' wood and tested them whether that wood is appropriate for wood carving.

I saw many wood carvers using basswood for carving in the internet. Basswood is translated into 'champi namu' in Korean. Frankly, I don't know that wood.

Someone suggests that 'matica' is not exact, but 'jelutong' is correct.

I carved a few animals for training using jelutong wood. Carving that wood is much easier to work with the other kinds of wood.

개인작업실도 없고 코로나와 거리 때문에 공방에 자주 갈 수 없어 목조각을 시작했습니다.

큰 작업장이 아니어도 작은 나무 조각과 칼 하나만 있어도 목각을 할 수 있습니다.

또 장비 욕심을 냈고 페일 D형 조각칼도 샀는데, 전에 플렉스컷 Flexcut 칼도 갖고 있었는데 조각칼만의 이점이 있습니다.

책과 인터넷의 자료를 참고해서 작은 동물들을 깎았습니다.

Because my workshop is not always accessible and Covid-19 is spread, I started wood carving as an alternative.

There are not much necessaries to start wood carving and whittling.

One sharp knife, a piece of wood, if more, a work table, are enough.

I already have one set of Flexcut carving knives. But I spent almost my pocket money to buy Pfeil D type carving chisels. It is a good investment.

I carved a few animals with reference to Youtube and a book.

 

일본산 공구 불매(지양)

일본 정부는 이웃 국가의 동반 성장을 바라지 않으며 매우 침략적인 게 맞습니다.

한국 경제 성장을 견제하는 걸 넘어 이제는 2019년 노골적으로 방해합니다.

그들의 기술과 제품을 높이 평가하고 태도에서 본받을 점이 있다고 봐 왔습니다만

이제는 나와 우리 처지도 다시 깨닫고 행동을 바꿔야겠습니다.

꼭 필요한데 대체재를 찾지 못한다면 모를까,

공구를 살 때도 우선 순위에서 일본산은 제외하겠습니다.

In recent years, Japan government, especially cabinet of Sinjo Abe, has not made friendly relationship between neighbored countries. 

Sometimes He didn't hide aggression to Korea. Nowadays, He is trying to block Korean economical development by unfair trade methods.

We have to do some actions to show our will and power.

For joining to No Japan Movement, I'm going to get rid of Japanese  products in my purchase lists.

나무 교차 퍼즐을 만들었습니다. wood cross puzzle

인터넷 상점의 나무 퍼즐을 보고 따라해 봤습니다.

호두나무 덩어리를 대패와 톱으로 다듬어 정사각형 단면의 막대를 먼저 만들었습니다.

재미있는 작업이었습니다.

조립해 보니 살짝 느슨해서 아쉽습니다.

Because I had a lump of walnut wood, I planed and sawed that piece of wood to get a square shape stick.

It was interesting work.

테헤란에서 목재 사기 purchsing wood in Tehran

공예용 목재를 파는 상점을 테헤란 시내에서 발견했습니다.

대추나무, 호두나무, 배나무, 그리고 이름을 모르는 수입목재를 샀습니다.

이런 것을 알게 돼 매우 기쁩니다. 앞으로도 이곳에더자주가겠지요.

이란에서도 수입 목재는 비싸지만 환율 덕분에 한국보다는 저렴합니다.

하지만 이란 목재가 매력적이라 굳이 비싼 수입 목재를 살 필요는 적습니다.

나무를 무게로 판다는 점이 매우 특이합니다.

I found a special wood store at the downtown area of Tehran in Iran.

I'm happy to know that.

They sell wood crafts, several kinds of domestic and imported wood. 

In Iran, imported wood is also expensive.  Due to exchange rate, I can buy them in cheaper price comparing with purchasing in Korea.

But for me, I don't need to buy imported one in Iran. Iranian wood is beautiful and special enough.

One interesting fact!

They sell wood by weight, not by size.

어린이 목공 교육 책 '나무로 배우는 교실, 뚝딱이방'을 냈습니다.

 

어린이 목공 교육 책을 냈습니다.
제목은 '나무로 배우는 교실,뚝딱이방'입니다.
부제는 '어린이 목공 교육 이야기'.

그동안 모은 자료를 모아 글과 사진을 편집하고 그림을 직접 그렸습니다.

목공을 시작한 지 십 삼년이 됐습니다. 그 동안에 두 학교에서 아이들과 목공을 함께 한 이야기를 시작으로 학교에서 준비부터 적용 방법, 목공방을 꾸미는 순서도 제안했습니다.

There are many books in field of woodworking skills, but few about children woodworking education in Korea.

I'll be happy if this book is useful to teachers who are challenge to teach woodworking to children.
 

동물 목조각을 해 봤습니다. I carved animals.

한국에서 동물 목조각 책을 가져왔고
아이들에게도 이 책을 소개했습니다.
펭귄 깎기를 시작으로 동물 목조각을 해 봤습니다.
톱과 공작칼로만 작업했습니다.

I bought a book about woodcarving and introduced this to my students.
I began with only a dovetail saw and safety knife as following her process of making penguin.

 
곰돌이도 하나 만들었습니다.
칠은 수채물감과 흰색 아크릴물감으로 했습니다.

Next, I carved a bear.
I used watercolor and white acrylic color.

처음에는 책에 있는대로 바닥판을 검정으로 했다가
금세 이니블루로 바꿔 칠했습니다.

At first, I painted black on the base, but repainted blue color immediately.

두 개를 나란히 두니 남북정상회담이 떠오릅니다.

I set two pieces side by side.
Oh, These remind me of South and North Korea Summit meeting.

그무개 보조대 Veritas marking gauge holder, base

몇 가지 그무를 써 보았습니다.

요즘 베리타스 그무개를 자주 씁니다.

견고하고 정확한 이 제품이 마음에 듭니다.

그런데 머리가 원형이라서 작업대 위에서 굴러다니고 때론 바닥에 떨어집니다.

그래서 홀더를 만들어 봤습니다.

작은 호두나무 막대를 깎아 수저 받침대처럼 모양을 냈습니다. 

그리고  8밀리미터 구멍을 내서 그무개 막대에 끼웁니다.

이러면 구르지도 않고 작업대에 두기도 편리합니다.

그리고 이 그무개를 잡기도 편하게 했습니다.

I used several marking gauges.

Nowadays I like using a Veritas micro adjust marking gauge.

It provides precise results and is easy to use.

But, because the head of marking gauge is circular, it roles over on workbench.

it fell down on the floor sometimes.

So, I made a holder for it.

I carved a small walnut stick as it is similar to chopstick base.

and made a 8mm hole on the stick.

This stick works well.

It makes the grip easier and provides stable base.

작은 창고를 고쳐서 작은 목공실을 만들었고 아이들과 목공을 하고 있습니다.

아이들이 매우 좋아하는 방과후 시간입니다.

최근에는 학부모들과 사각스툴을 만들고 있습니다.

I'm in Tehran IRAN

I started to teach Korean students in Tehran Korean School from mid of Feb this year.

We reformed a small storage as a woodworking workshop.

Students like woodworking after class very much.

Recently, There is a extra woodworking class for parents.

They are making stools for children.

This is our new woodworking workshop signboard.

대패로 참나무 자투리 조각 다듬어 두기 Planing off-cut oaks.

참나무 의자를 여러 개 만들었을 때
자투리 나무가 제법 나왔다.
쓸만한 각재로 만들어 이용하고 싶어 모아 두었던 것을 대패질했다.
날을 잘 갈아서 대패질 표면이 매우 매끄럽게 잘 됐다.
거스러미도 없고 사포질할 필요가 없다.
일정 폭으로 여러 개를 해 두니 기분이 좋다.

A dozen of oak wood off-cut pieces were left after making oak chairs.

I kept them for later usage.

Today, I planed them to make small lumbers.

I sharpened the Stanley block plane before it.

There was no tear-out on the surface. It was clean and nice.

So, no need for sanding.

I felt good.

가죽을 배우다 Learning leather craft

가죽을 다룰 줄 안다면 매우 유용할 거라 생각한 때가 있다.
예를 들어 내게 맞는 끌집을 가죽으로 만들면 좋겠다고.
운 좋게도,
공방 회원 중에 가죽 공예를 하시는 분께 배울 기회가 생겼다.
그래서 기초 기술로 여권지갑을 하나 만들었다.
이어서 바로 말이식 연필 통을 만들었다.

바탕 면에 바르는 용액, 모서리에 바르는 용액, 실과 바늘, 구멍을 뚫는 그리프를
인터넷으로 바로 샀다.
무엇보다 구멍을 뚫는 그리프가 꼭 필요하다.
가죽도 조금 샀다. 열심히 만들어야지.


Sometimes I think that how useful it it if I am able to do leather craft.

For example, It will be wonderful If I can make my own leather rolling chisel case.

Fortunately,  I got a chance to learn leather craft from woodworking workshop members .
They had practiced leather craft skills at leather workshop for several months and also can make there own small projects. That's enough.

They taught basic skills to us and we completed own passport cover.

I challenged to make rolling pencil case and done.

I bought basic tools and stuffs for leather craft.  Griffe is essential tool for punching stitch holes.  Several small leather pieces also.

단풍나무 사각 접시 Making rectangular maple wood bowl

전에 다듬은 단풍나무를 대패질한 것을 올렸었다.
참 오랜 기간 조금씩 작업했다.
단풍나무 자투리 토막으로 사각형 그릇을 만들었다.

속의 오목한 면은 루터로 기초 가공을 했다.

I posted an article about planing a maple off-cut.

I made a rectangular bowl with it.

I used my Festool router with edge guide to make concave.

그릇 바닥도 루터로 사각형 꼴로 만들었다.

그런데 바닥 모양을 사각형으로 하는 건 다시 생각해 볼 필요가 있다.
The base of bowl is rectangular.  But shaping rectangular convex surface is not effective.
I have to consider another design and method.

기본 모양을 만들고 나서 환끌로 파기 시작했다.
After finishing basic shape with router.
I started to chop out to shape concave using several different gouge chisels.

나무가 잘 말라 있어서 면이 깔끔했다.
끌질 하는 느낌이 좋았지만 나무가 단단해서 힘들기는 하다.
물에 30분 정도 담갔다가 파는 것도 시험 삼아 해 봤다.
끌질을 할 때 나무가 부드러워져서 효과가 있다.

The maple off-cut was dried very well. So, The surface of wood after chisel chopping was very clean and nice.
It feels good whenever I chop the maple block.
I tried to chop after sinking the maple for 30~40 minutes.
It worked. That soften the wood a little.

완성한 모양이다. 사포질을 조금 하고 아마씨유를 발라서 마감했다.

I finished it after sanding and coating raw linseed oil.

다른 그릇을 하나 더 만들려고 한다.
처음부터 손으로 파려다가 포기했다. 대신 탁상 드릴로 파 보려고 한다.
그리고 바닥면 모양도 깎기 쉬운 모양으로 할 계획이다.

I'm going to make one more rectangular bowl.
I started with gouge chisel, but I gave up soon.
Instead, I exchanged the tool into drill press.
There is a another change on bowl base for effectiveness.
